WESTERN RED CEDAR

western red cedar One of the darkest western woods with beautiful, rich coloring which ranges from a light straw color in the sapwood to a reddish-pink in the heartwood, Western Red Cedar is desired for its supremely fine and even grain, as well as its flexiblity and strength. Western Red Cedar is perfect for exterior and interior use where humidity is high due to its high impermeability to moisture and its natural phenol preservatives. Good for roof and wall applications because of its natural insulating ability, Western Red Cedar is a stable wood that seasons easily and quickly, has a low shrinkage factor and has excellent finishing qualities.

DOUGLAS FIR/HEMLOCK

Some of the most common and abundant species in the Paciifc Northwest, these trees provide medium-toned softwoods. Douglas Fir is a honey-beige color with reddish brown heartwood, while Hemlock is a blond, neutral color throughout. These woods' exceptional strength, durability and stiffness make them ideal for structural applications, as well as flooring, paneling & trim. Both produce a very distinctive, straight grain pattern.

   PONDEROSA PINE/SPRUCE

Ponderosa Pine & Spruce range in color from a honey tone to a deep straw. These softwoods have less pitch, unusually wide sapwood and a minimum of heartwood. They have a knotty appearance and are resistant to splitting, warping and cupping, making them desirable for interior paneling and fascia. They take paint and stain well, and when left unfinished, gradually turn a golden color.
